Japanese firm Hitachi has just paid nearly £700m for the acquisition of UK nuclear power consortium Horizon, which owns the potential new build sites at Oldbury, near Bristol, and Wylfa, in north Wales. Hitachi's preferred design is the Advanced Boiling Water Reactor, or ABWR.
